The Paul Walter Flynn Scholarship Award

On January 31st, 2021, Coach Mac’s dearest friend Paul Flynn died suddenly in Queens New York. Paul was the proprietor of Flynn's Garden Inn, Sunnyside. He is the beloved father of Stephanie and her husband Stephen, and Jack Flynn. Also left behind are his loving brother Kevin and his wife Ann Marie.

Born on the 4th March 1954, Paul was an incredibly gifted footballer with the sweetest left foot. He was fast, technical, played with vision, and was a prolific goal-scorer. He was good in the air and brave in the tackle.

In honor of his memory, each year Leslie and I wish to offer a scholarship to a Cobra player. This years scholarship shall include Winter Two 2025 through Spring 2025, and will cover all dues, including all tournament fees. The scholarship shall run for perpetuity. Thanks to the  2023/2024 recipient, Lily, for embracing the opportunity to honor Paul’s memory.

Coach Mac and Paul grew up together, played football together, lived in Amsterdam and New York together, followed Everton together, and were just two good mates. All who knew him and loved him will dearly and sorely miss Paul.

Applications for the 2023-24 Flynn Scholarship are now open through August 18th.
