U11 Girls:
The newest team at the Cobras had a tremendous first game paying in the CASA Premier League.  They all played incredibly well considering they had to deal with the continued inclement weather, they had not had the opportunity to train, nor did they all know each other’s names.

The very first goal for the team came from Cassidy Lewis who struck a well placed shot into the corner.  Izzie Green scored a brace (two goals) and Hannah Wells also scored.  Annie Greene and Hannah Wells had 2 assists apiece, while the two goalies, Grace Beedles and Abby McCartney both played well in nets.  Numerous players had additional shots and every one of the girls played very well.

U12 Girls:

The U12 Girls opened the outdoor season with a couple of great games.  They played them both on Saturday, winning the first and drawing the second. They convincingly won their opener by comprehensively beating Pennine 5-1. Goals were scored by: Gavi Pitones with a brace, and Alyssa Forte, Cayla Mercurio, and Lexi Gephart all with a goal apiece.

The second game was more exciting as we fell behind 3-0 against Canton and things, obviously, were looking rather grim.  However, the girls rallied together and slowly began to get back into the game.  Alyssa Forte started the come-back with Lexi Gephart scoring the second goal.  The Cobras continued to press and eventually Lauren Hradesky scored the well deserved equalizer.

U16 Girls:

The U16 Girls opened up the season with a truly physical game against Keystone from the U18 Division which was played on a desperately muddy pitch.  The referee for the game, after clearly instructing me and all the players he would not allow any physical contact owing to the terrible conditions, proceeded to allow every football style tackle and hit to go uncalled.   Even so, both teams played well and both teams hit the framework of the goal with great efforts.  The 0-0 score at halftime was indicative of the closeness of the game.  The game stayed scoreless until the closing minutes when the ref finally called a foul and we had a direct free kick.  Up came Katie Benya to absolutely thump the ball home giving the Cobras the victory I feel we justifiably deserved.  Congratulations to Rachel and Monica for making some great saves and both keeping clean sheets in their respective halfs.

U18 Girls:

The U18’s opened up against their old adversaries OP, and on a most blustery afternoon I believe everyone on the sidelines waited in eager anticipation for the game.  It proved to be a most entertaining match with the end result, 5-0, actually being a bit of a surprise as the games against OP are often closer.  OP had some moments, and with a full squad and three keepers, they worked us for a little while.  However, with our new keeper, Gabby Bodo in sterling form, and making some early reassuring saves one could quite quickly see the Cobras confidence setting in.  Kori Chapic forgot she was playing outside and was pinging balls into the back of OP net like she was playing indoor!  Kori scored all five goals with a first half hat-trick and a second half brace.  Two of Kori’s goals were assisted by Gabby’s full pitch clearances which Kori latched on to with great aplomb.  A totally impressive and convincing victory which could only have happened with every player contributing with some excellent defending, industrious midfield play, and some really sharp attacking---Great Job Girls!

U14 Boys-No game:

U16 Boys:

Interestingly enough, just like the U12 Girls on the day before, the U16 Boys went behind 3-0 and looked as if they were about to plummet.  However, you never can tell with this game, and sure enough, the lads began to make an impressive comeback.  With successive goals from Quinn Malone, Spencer Sukel, and Casey Adamus we soon found ourselves totally back in the game and pressing to take the lead.  Unfortunately, it was Whitecaps who scored the fourth and who were able to hang on to the lead.  Although we did have numerous clear cut chances to tie the game, unfortunately, we failed to do so.  Even so, it was indeed another spirited comeback which was enjoyable to watch.
