Weekend Round-Up

Weekend Round-Ups

U11 Girls

On a most blustery day the U11 Girls continued to impress with a truly fine performance against a good Cleveland United team.   Although the wind was indeed playing havoc with the ball for both teams, the Cobra girls continued to play the ball to feet, and were able to develop and sustain many worthwhile attacks.  We won the game 4-3 and were worthy winners indeed.

Annie Greene continued with her wonderful goal-scoring vein and had another well taken hat-trick to add to her tally of two hat-tricks last weekend.  The fourth goal was scored by Laura Gorjanc with a beautifully struck shot.  We had an assist by our goalie, Abby McCartney, who had one of her best games ever in nets.  Other assists came from Nicole Dicicco and Cassidy Lewis.  We had some spectacular corners served in by Cassidy Lewis and we probably should have connected with more of them.  Alison Patrick took some well taken goal kicks, both with the wind and into the wind, as well as having a solid game in defense. It was fantastic to have our newest Cobra Molly Stewart playing with the team and she certainly was most instrumental in the victory.  Well played everyone!

U13 Girls

Playing 11 V 11 poses many different tactical situations which often cause problems as players are learning the game.  The U13’s are working on their understanding of depth perception whilst holding a restraining line, dropping a restraining line, or pushing forward with a restraining line.  As Saturday’s game progressed I was impressed by their application and feel they have started to fully understand the concepts.  The girls beat Keystone 3-1 in a most entertaining game.  Once again, the players in this game had to deal with a difficult wind problem, and we fell a goal behind in the first half as we kicked into the wind.  During the second half we took control of the game and little Annie Greene, who had been called up from the U11’s owing to four U13 cryoffs, scored a brace of goals, the second one proved to be the winner; it was a cracker!  Lauren Hradesky, who played a great game in nets, launched a ball deep into the Keystone half for Annie to run on to.  Annie did everything correctly as she timed her run and her shot to perfection—the ball flew into the far corner and was most certainly the best goal of the weekend.  Gabby Iademarco, taking every opportunity to shoot, added the third goal to round out the scoring.  Both outside midfielders, Izzie Green and Courtney Favazzo, did well combining their defensive duties with their attacking play.  A well played game by all the girls involved!
