February 12th and 13th Weekend Round

Girls’ Game of the Weekend

Although the Cobra girls’ teams had numerous wins over the weekend of February 12th and 13th, the most impressive game we had came in a 5-3 loss!  One of our high school teams, owing to various cry-offs and no-shows, ended up with just enough girls to play and without any subs; furthermore, one of our girls felt sick and the opposition had three full lines.  The players involved were Rachel and Molly Elson, Elana Curry, Alyx Brown, Gwen Thomas, and Gabbie Bondra.  The girls were all simply fabulous as they played with the class, grit, and determination synonymous with Cobra Girls’ teams.  Molly Elson governed her fellow defenders, Gabbie Bondra and Elana Curry and the three girls were simply exceptional.  Alyx Brown and Gwen Thomas worked tirelessly in midfield and attack, and somehow, each time Impact took the lead the Cobra girls pegged them back and equalized.  The Cobra goals came from Alyx Brown and Elana Curry, with the best goal of the entire game coming from our keeper Rachel Elson.  Rachel took a free-kick inside her own half and simply blistered it past the flailing Impact keeper.  I hate to lose at any game; however, when a Cobra team loses with such class and dignity one can only feel incredibly proud!
